Dimapur, Oct. 8 (EMN): Thirty-five children from seven “child care institutions” in Kohima district attended the third day of an ‘outreach programme’ that the governor of
Nagaland has been hosting. Updates from the PRO to the governor on Monday said that the children from the welfare institutions also celebrated the birthday of the governor, PB Acharya, at the Raj Bhavan on October 8.
Governor Acharya thanked the children for their heartfelt birthday wishes and their inspiring performances, the PRO stated in the updates. “Stating that the children were second to none, he called on the care takers and coordinators of all homes in the state to identify the talent of their children and groom them in that field.”
Acaharya congratulated nongovernmental organisations in the field for ‘strengthening the society’ through their community works, the PRO stated.
The governor also appealed to the ‘empowered institutions’ including banks, cooperative societies and educational institutions to adopt a “child care institution” in their areas as part of corporate social responsibility.
‘The empowered should share and care, he added. He also encouraged the children to improve and empower themselves through education,’ the PRO’s updates read.
Kavita Acharya, the governor’s wife, also encouraged the children to dream big and to make the society proud.
“She also called on the children to love and respect their fellow brother and sister and their house parents. She expressed hope that the children will be nation builders in the days to come,” the PRO stated.
Members of the Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home, Open Shelter, Bright Morning Star and a dance by Kanili, finalist of Kohima Mega Dance Fiesta.
‘Special presentations’ were given by Kohima Orphanage & Destitute Home, Open Shelter, Bright Morning Star. Besides a dance performance by Kanili, finalist of Kohima Mega Dance Fiesta, were some of the features of the event, it was informed.
The chairperson of the programme, Lucy Konyak welcomed the children and the caretakers to Raj Bhavan. She hoped that the programme would be a memorable event for all those who attended. She said that the outreach programme held was a personal initiative of Governor Acharya, and expressed appreciation to the governor for giving such an opportunity to the children, the updates stated.
Earlier, the governor also had a “ceremonial cake cutting” with the children, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan and all those present at the programme. The children and the governor also played games, the updates said.
Further, the governor donated carom board, board games, skipping ropes amongst other stationeries to all children’s institutions, the PRO stated.
