Dimapur, April 20 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland PB Acharya has written a letter to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to include one more district of Nagaland in the ‘Transformation Aspirational District Programme’ for ‘quick and effective transformation of backward districts’ in the country.
This was informed by the public relations officer to the governor on Friday. Congratulating the prime minster for the programme, the governor is said to have explained that Mon district, with its large population, was still underdeveloped.
The governor opined that including Mon along with Kiphire in the Transformation Aspirational District Programme would be beneficial not only for the two districts but for the state in general.
Earlier, it was stated that governor was briefed about the programme by an officer working in the programme, Sanjay Kumar, during the officer’s visit to Nagaland.
Sanjay Kumar is stated to have explained that the programme was launched by the prime minister of India in January 2018 with the aim to quickly and effectively transform selected districts, raising the living standards of its citizens and ensuring inclusive growth for all.
With states as the main drivers, the programme will focus on the strength of each district, ‘identify low-hanging fruits for immediate improvement, measure progress, and rank districts,’ the updates informed.
The governor requested the officer to inform him monthly about matters related to the programme.
Acharya is also stated to have discussed the matter with the chief minister of Nagaland during a meeting earlier in the week.
