Dimapur, Aug. 22 (EMN): The Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha (GSKS), Kohima, under the aegis of Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK), celebrated the 30th Bhasha Diwas at GPPK Hall in Chandmari, Kohima, on August 20. The event was observed to mark the recognition day of Nepali language.
Speaking on the occasion, GPPK president Santu Thapa recalled the sacrifices of those visionary Gorkha leaders particularly the then Member of Parliament from Sikkim, Dil Kumari Bhandari, who tirelessly pursued for recognition of Nepali language. He also thanked the government of India for including Nepali language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, stated an update from the organisation.
Thapa, therefore, encouraged the Gorkha students to promote their language at different levels and avail the benefits of the constitutionally recognised language.
He also called upon all the Nepali/ Gorkhas to continuously maintain the Covid appropriate behaviours and follow the laid down SOPs at all times.
GSKSK cultural secretary, Bharat Barailly, chaired the programme, while the welcome speech was delivered by GSKSK president, Chandra Kumar Lama, and the significance of Bhasha Diwas was shared by its assistant cultural secretary, Vinod Mothey. The vote of thanks was delivered by assistant general secretary, Bikash Lama.
