Imphal, November 29: Around 504 goods-laden trucks including 65 fuel tankers, 31 FCI goods and others loaded with essential items have left Jiribam sub-divisional headquarters, 220 km west of here, before noon with security escorts for Imphal, reports have said.
However, around 30 trucks carrying fuel were reportedly damaged when suspected blockade supporters attacked them by pelting stones at Lukhambi and Noney areas along the Imphal-Jiribam highway in Tamenglong district.
There is no report of human casualty till this report going to the press.
Manipur has been facing artificial scarcity of essential commodities after the United Naga Council (UNC) called an indefinite economic blockade on the supply lines of the state since November 1 midnight. The agitation was in protest against the reported move of the Manipur government to create Sadar Hills and Jiribam into full-fledged revenue districts.
The ongoing agitation of the UNC has intensified after the recent arrest of UNC President and information secretary in connection with the blockade.
