[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith the lifting of the ban on all construction works on National projects and vehicular traffic on National and state highways in Naga areas of Manipur, the Imphal bound stranded goods trucks have started to move forward from Mao and Jiribam towns, sources in Imphal said.
On Thursday noon, the United Naga Council (UNC) Manipur lifted its indefinite ban vehicular traffic on the Highways popularly known as ‘blockade’, giving a break to the people who have faced price hike of essential items by the weeklong stir. The decision to lift the blockade was taken in the presidential council meeting of the UNC in view of the centre’s intervention into the current issue and difficulties faced by the people.In view of the development, more than 480 Imphal bound goods trucks which were stranded at Jiribam town, 222km west of Imphal have started to move forward along the Imphal-Jiribam route since early in the morning, sources from Jiribam,a small town bordering Assam’s Cachar district said.
Similarly many goods trucks stranded in between Mao gate and Khuzama gate (Nagaland) have also started to reach Imphal this afternoon.
