Imphal, Oct.1 (EMN): A team of Divisional Preventive Force of Customs division Imphal on Sunday seized gold worth Rs 5.98 cr. in 12 number of bigger size gold biscuits weighing around 5.954 kilogram in an operation, the customs department sources said.
The gold biscuits were seized from the possession of one Md Nazimuddin, a resident of Lilong Turel Ahanbi who was in a Tata sumo to Silchar (from Imphal) along Imphal-Jiribam sector of National Highway 37.The seizure was made while checking the passenger Tata sumo at Yurembam area, 7km west of Imphal around 6am, the source added.
The arrested person along with the seized gold biscuits was kept under the custody of Customs Imphal division for further interrogation.
On September 15, air intelligence unit of the Customs Division and CISF from Imphal airport apprehended six individuals for illegally carrying 36 numbers of gold biscuits weighing 5.97 Kgs by concealing in their rectums. The monetary value of the gold was Rs 1.79 crore.
