DIMAPUR — The Golaghat District Committee of various student and social organisations in Assam has issued a formal statement rejecting the recent public notice issued by 11 village councils in Bhandari subdivision, Wokha district.
In a meeting held on August 28 at the head office of the Golaghat District Committee of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), in coordination with AASAA, UBPO, BSS, and Ex-BLT, the organisations unanimously resolved to demand the withdrawal of the public notice by September 1, or face possible action.
The statement issued by the Golaghat organisations expressed concern over the public notice, which they described as “opposite to maintaining peace and unity.”

Following a meeting on August 23, the 11 village councils had issued a public notice outlining several prohibitions within their jurisdiction to address repeated conflicts and disturbances caused by outsiders.
The villages involved in this decision are Suphayan, Roni Old, Roni New, Lio-Wokha New, Pantong, Khumchoyan, Longung, Hayiyan, Yenchu, Serika, and Tongti.
Citing public interest, the council announced a list of activities to be prohibited in their jurisdiction with effect from September 1. Among others, the banned activities included the use of intoxicants, gambling, hunting, free grazing, and unauthorised collection of natural resources, along with heavy fines for violations.
They also mandated that visitors obtain prior permission and a valid ILP before entering. “Unnecessary gatherings or creating illegal tensions in the name of picnics or photography are banned,” they stated.
