DIMAPUR — The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has expressed deep concern over the recent abductions of innocent civilians amid ongoing tensions between the Kuki and Naga communities in Manipur.
While welcoming the release of fourteen hostages from each side, the forum said the continued detention of the remaining individuals remains a serious humanitarian issue requiring urgent attention.
In a statement, the forum noted with cautious relief that the Kuki hostages are believed to be in safe custody.
However, it said grave anxiety persists within the Naga community over the fate of the remaining male Naga hostages, as there has been no credible information regarding their well-being.

“The complete absence of reliable information has caused immense fear and uncertainty among the families and the wider public,” the statement said.
The forum also expressed disappointment over what it described as the lack of meaningful progress or communication from both state and central authorities despite their presence in the region.
It said the situation reflected a troubling failure of institutions responsible for ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
Appealing to Kuki Inpi Manipur and the concerned militant groups, the forum urged the immediate and unconditional release of the remaining Naga hostages. It further called for prompt communication regarding their condition, “whether alive or otherwise,” through any available channel in order to bring clarity and solace to their families.
Highlighting the shared Christian faith of both Naga and Kuki communities, the forum called on all parties to embrace the values of forgiveness, compassion, and reconciliation.
“In the name of our shared faith, we must reject violence, abduction, and retaliation. True Christian witness demands that we protect human life, pursue reconciliation, and choose peace over conflict,” the statement added.
The forum also appealed to both communities to exercise restraint, goodwill, and mutual respect, expressing hope that immediate positive action from all concerned would prevent further deterioration of the situation and keep open the path toward lasting peace and reconciliation.
