Dimapur, Aug. 24 (EMN): As part of their academic curriculum, Govt. Higher Sec. School, Mon students who take up Information Technology, and Travel and Tourism as their vocational subjects are on a two-day educational tour to Dimapur where they visited different important places to get first hand information to prepare for the project works.
Altogether twenty-eight students of Class XI and XII from the two departments accompanied by two teachers arrived and visited important places like the stone garden, Nagaland Zoological Park, the Dimapur Airport, Naithiu Resort and the
Eastern Mirror office and the printing press.
The inquisitive students from the IT Dept of the GHSS, Mon, numbering eight of them, were given an extensive tour of the newsroom and printing press and also interacted with the reporters and the editorial team.

Eastern Mirror’s Associate Editor, Raymond Ronamai and Sr. Sub-Editor, Paudi Renta enlightened the students about the working system of a newspaper — the establishment, the different sections and challenges of working in a newspaper etc.
GHSS, Mon Asst. teacher, Nginya Konyak, who is one the teachers leading the students, said that this is the first time that the school is taking the students to Dimapur for their project work. In previous years, the school took the students to different places within Mon district, she said. Nonetheless, Konyak said that such tour is an integral part of the syllabus and the students would be given marks according to how they prepare their project works.
Leya, a Class XII student, spoke about her experiences during this tour.
“We are very excited and it’s a great learning experience for us,” said the Class XII student. On being asked to elaborate on the word ‘learning’, Leya said, “We are meeting new people, seeing new places, interacting new people and getting a lot of information.”
Her classmate, Aiwang Konyak said that it was the first time that he entered into a newsroom and interact with real time professional journalists and get a first hand information about the working system and the challenges of being a journalist.
“We have learnt a lot this evening,” said the young student, Aiwang Konyak, “We were enlightened by the editors (Ronamai and Renta) about the working system of a newspa per, the difference between a reporter and a journalist, the different challenges of publishing a newspaper etc.”
The students were also enlightened about the different sections in a newspaper establishment especially in a major newspaper like
- the management, the Editorial team led by the Editor, the sub-editors, reporters; the advertisement section, the printing section, the circulation section etc.
It is said that the Govt. Hr Sec. School, Mon has classes from Standard VII-VIII and has more than 1,500 students.
