Kohima, July 20 (EMN): The School Management Community (SMC), teachers and staff of Government High School (GHS) New Market, Kohima organised a felicitation programme for the school's first batch of successful students in HSLC examination 2018 on July 20.
Speaking on the occasion, Kovi Meyase, Joint Secretary to the Government of Nagaland congratulated the successful candidates and their teachers. He lauded the students that they were the pioneers who held the record for the school.
He reminded them that as first matriculates from GHS New Market, they carried the responsibility to set good examples to their juniors. The officer urged upon the students to be role models and also implored them not to forget the efforts of their parents, teachers, community, school staff, friends, juniors etc. who were working behind them to ensure that they emerged successful.
The speaker also pointed out that in this age of information technology, many have become slaves to addictive gadgets. Although such gadgets have become a necessity, he cautioned them not to become slaves of such gadgets but rather become masters over them as students. He advised them to inculcate the habit of reading books and not to be too dependent on gadgets. He told students to responsibly use social networking tools like WhatsApp, YouTube or Google.
Meyase highlighted the importance of maintaining good physical health and exhorted the students that they could also achieve this by helping their parents with household chores which is also an engagement in physical activity and not only in sports.
"To be good students, the intellect does not only matter but the physical aspect is also very important," Meyase said, adding that when one's physical body is healthy, the mental capability also increases.
Stating that matriculation and graduation are the two most important milestones in a student's life, he wished them a successful future.
Headmistress of the school, Vilanuo said it was a red-letter day though she felt that the school was still very young in the education field. She acknowledged the people of the locality for their support and cooperation towards the growth of the school to where it was today.
She also highlighted some of the issues and problems that the school was facing. She maintained that due to lack of infrastructure, the teachers were finding it difficult to accommodate students with optional subjects. The school head also apprised the gathering about the lack of staff office which was necessary particularly to manage corresponding papers to higher authority and also a chowkidar to take care of the documents of the school.
Tosovise Pusa, member of SMC and Rokobeizo Nyusou, Chairman, New Market Area Panchayat also spoke on the occasion.
Altogether, eight students cleared the HSLC 2018 exam from the GHS New Market.
