Mokokchung, Oct. 27 (EMN): Established as a Middle English School in the year 1967, Yajen Aier Government High School, Mopungchuket, celebrated its golden jubilee today with the Principal Director of School Education, Smita Sarangi as chief guest at the village community hall.
The school was upgraded to a high school in the year 2015 and subsequently christened after Yajen Aier, the first Naga Deputy Inspector of Schools and retired Director of Education who hailed from the village.
The Principal Director of School Education, while speaking at the jubilee, congratulated the school on achieving the milestone and for securing 91% pass percentage in HSLC examinations in 2017 in the school’s first appearance for the said exams.
She also encouraged the students to work harder and bring more laurels to the village and the State. She expressed her appreciation to the teachers for their relentless efforts. She also appreciated the Village Education Committee for serving the community to the best of their ability.
Mentioning that the School Education Department is undergoing through a rationalisation exercise to improve the quality of education, she emphasised on the need to increase the number of enrolment in government schools. She also assured to do her best towards improvement of education system in the days to come. She also released the school’s golden jubilee souvenir.
Other speakers included DEO Mokokchung, ST Nokdang Longkumer; EAC Kubolong C Phuniang; VEC chairman K Alem Aier; and N Bendang Ao, retired Secretary of Development Authority of Nagaland.
Other highlights of the function included performance of the school’s anthem and the jubilee song by the school choir, special number by youth department of Mopungchuket Baptist Church, and a jubilee feast. Alumni, students, parents and well wishers attended the celebration.
