Dimapur, Nov. 14: Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) has expressed gratitude to the NSCN (K) group led by Khango Konyak for acknowledging the appeal of Naga people and deciding to join peace process and resume ceasefire with Government of India.
NGBF on Wednesday said in a statement that it met the NSCN/GPRN on Oct, 25, 2018 at Yankhao village in Nagaland in an effort to bring “inclusive solution for permanent peace to the decades old Naga Political issue.”
In the meantime, NSCN/GPRN has asked NGBF to pursue the Government of India (GOI) to enter into a ceasefire with the group at the earliest. It has demanded the Indian government to ‘lift the ban imposed on NSCN and removal of terrorist tag, rescind the bounties placed on NSCN leaders, repeal AFSPA/DAA on the enforced Naga areas, and unconditional release of its cadres arrested after the abrogation of ceasefire and undergoing trials or serving sentences in different prison across the state/country’ to facilitate the group to join the peace talk.
Responding to the demands, interlocutor of Naga peace process R. N.Ravi said in a meeting with NGBF on Nov. 1 in New Delhi that GOI “never abrogated the ceasefire with NSCN (K)” but the outfit walked away from peace talk in 2015. He said that the GOI welcomes the group to the peace talk anytime.
Ravi stated that Indian government has “no objection for NSCN (K) to maintain their entity” and that ban on the group, terrorist tag and bounties on its leaders will be automatically removed once it comes into peace talk. However, he asserted that “India has a commitment to solve the Naga issue with one comprehensive solution,” so there cannot have many agreements.
The NSCN (Khongo group) on Nov. 2 accepted the conditions set by the GOI and the NGBF had handed over the acceptance letter to the government for further process, said a statement by NGBF.
“The Nagaland GB Federation at this crucial juncture would like to appeal to the Government of India promptly respond to the peace offer and resume talk as soon as possible; we also urge all our Naga political Groups to unite and join Peace process for early solution,” said the statement.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Peace Centre, Kohima has also welcomed the move of the Khango-led NSCN (K) to resume ceasefire and pursue the Naga political issue with GOI.
