In an attempt to enhance the neighbourly good relations between the people living in the Assam-Nagaland areas, Gabroo Festival-2016 is being celebrated at the foot hills located at Gabroo in the adjoining areas of Jorhat and Mokokchung district. Gabroo is a spot filled with scenic natural beauty and considered as a renown heritage situated near Assam – Nagaland border. Apart from historic identity of Ahom rule connected with king Godapani, Joymoti, Dalimi, Ladoigarh, Dhodarali, Chintamoni Garh etc, the hear-say about Gabroo and the mighty Bhramaputra River is an attraction for intellectuals towards revealing the concealed mystery for the posterity. The three days event which kicked off on March 18 with exchanges of pleasantries amongst the people from the 6 surroundings Naga villagers with the 9 Assamese villagers followed by “Gabroo Peace Flag” hoisting and one to one interaction with community feast. In the afternoon, Friendly Volley ball league match was held. The final match played on Saturday where Assam team (Sotai) won beating Nagaland (Tsuremmen village).
The goal of celebrating this festival is to interchange the culture and literature between the people of Assam and Nagaland. At the same time this festival also aims to further uplift the peace and prosperity among the people living in this region. The celebration covering public from both hills and plains is expected to enhance the mission of the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland), BPCC(A-N), as the BPCC(A-N) is of the opinion that sports and cultural assimilations of the bordering people shall be effective ways of peace coordination. Thus this festival is organized by the celebration committee of Gabroo Tourism Development Committee in collaboration with the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland).
It is worth to mention here that the Inter-state neighbor MLAs of Assam and Nagaland, honorable representatives of Mariani LAC Rupjyoti Kurmi, Parliamentary Secretary (Power, Govt. of Assam) and Alongtaki LAC Dr. Benjongliba Aier, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture & Chairman NSAMB, Govt. of Nagaland have generously contributed for organizing this mega event where public from either side had thronged in to various events during the 3 day peace festival. Out of the contribution received from the Alongtaki MLA, the organizers have named the main meeting hall in honor of late Ngangshikaba Aier (popularly known as J.N. Aier), father of Dr. Benjongliba who died very recently. This kind of bestowing and honouring its own neighbor during this festivity too signals a sign of peace bonding amongst the populace.
Today, during the final days celebration, a close interaction session was initiated where public from the surrounding areas both from the Hills and plains participated and deliberated on continuance of such activities in future and to uphold the traditional age old good relations amongst the people. Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, B. P. Bora, President of BPCC(A-N) alongwith Executive members, Keshab Buragohain, President, Gabroo Fest-2016, Indreswar Gogoi, Working President, the Village Council Chairmen of Akumen, Tsuremmen, Saringyim & Nokpu (Assiring) and a host of public leaders partook in this session. The goodwill messages sent to this Gabroo Festivity-2016 from the Chief Minister Nagaland and Dr. Benjongliba Aier, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture & Chairman NSAMB were read out by Er. Temsu Wathi, the Coordinator of the BPCC(A-N) on their behalf.
