Kohima, Dec. 28 (EMN): The 62nd general session of the Khulazu Basa Students’ Union was held at Ceküzho, Khulazu Basa village in Phek district on Friday under the theme “Economic empowerment through entrepreneurship.”
“The future will belong to people who take up business,” said Neichute Doulo, Chief Executive Officer, Entrepreneurs Associates, Kohima and guest speaker of the event. He advised the students not to underestimate business but to ‘develop qualities like hard work, honesty, and transparency.’
Cautioning the students on excessive use of mobile phones, he said “hard work” is required to succeed in business. “We work so hard that we don’t have time to talk on the phone,” he said.
Encouraging the students to take up manual job, he said “no job is demeaning; all labour is dignified.” He pointed out that there is an ‘imbalance between the children and parents’ wherein kids are taught that only government job is secure.
‘There is less encouragement to opt for business, entrepreneurship, and other private opportunities as careers. Such mindset and culture should be changed,’ he remarked. He added that there is very less or no balance of “struggling spirit” between the children and parents.
Speaking on the importance of business as a career, he said “there is no competition in business, you are your only competitor.” He added that there can’t be proxy in business unlike in government jobs and that “in business one have to learn to work hard as well as learn to love money.”
“If you want to grow, you cannot expect to be in your comfort zone,” said Doulo. “Nagas can’t do business because we think that we will start counting money once we get into business.”
Doulo, who is also the first person to sell icecream in Kohima, encouraged the students to set high standard for themselves, work hard, and never give up.
President KBSU Kezhothito Keyho in his presidential address paid respect to the pioneers and former leaders of the union. He also acknowledged the students who have excelled in studies.
Pressing on the theme of the event, Keyho said, “Sluggish economy poses as one of the most potent traits that we as individual and community face today. If left unchecked, it can destroy the very social fabric that we have been emphasising on.”
He also pointed out that one have to face the “harsh realities” of the increasing rate of youth unemployment who “have no idea whatsoever as to what they should do with their life.” He urged the students to work hard, be determined and have the courage to follow their dreams despite many obstacles that they might have to go through.
Veseta Rhakho, President of Chakhesang Students’ Union, Dimapur said that “today is the day that we began to learn to look through to eyes of others.” He went on to say that “it is the day we grow bigger than our differences and offer to everyone regardless of different concepts, rights and wrongs.”
