Kohima, Nov. 15 (EMN): The North Eastern Electrical Power Corporate Limited (NEEPCO) conducted a state-level painting competition on ‘Energy Conservation’ under the national campaign on energy conservation initiated by the Ministry of Power, Government of India at Eastgate Hotel in Kohima on Thursday.
The chief guest for the event, Shanavas C, principal director of School Education, in his address, stressed on the importance of education for all round development. He urged the students to pursue their passion and become responsible citizens of the nation by taking positive inspirations.
He spoke on the characteristics of a good student and advised them not to be arrogant but rather fight for their dreams and create interest (hobbies) in order to ‘make every day worth living’. He also urged them to be role models for change, adding that the future society belongs to them.
Shanavas went on to advise the students to be compassionate and have empathy for the needy, to conserve energy for sustainable development, to grow together and to believe in themselves.
In the painting competition, a total of 89 students from across the state participated in two categories: Category A (comprised of students from class 4 to class 6) with 43 participants and Category B (students from class 7 to class 9) which was participated by 46 students. The topics for the competition were “Spare a watt; Save a lot”, “Turn-off the light when outside is bright”, “It pays to be energy efficient” and “It’s your favour to be energy saver”.
An official from NEEPCO informed that the top three winners from each category will represent the state in the national level to be held this year at New Delhi on December 12.
The winners of category A were Yeputholi H Yepthomi from Holy Cross Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur in first place, Rukuosalie from Bayavu Hr. Sec. School, Kohima and Bhamni Hazarika from St. Mary Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur in second and third place respectively.
In Category B, Olivi H Yepthomi from Holy Cross Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur won the first position, Lhusuto Medeo from Government High School, Yoruba in Phek district stood in the second position and Michael Yeptho from St. Mary Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur won the third prize.
The first position from each category won INR 50,000, INR 30,000 for second prize and INR 20,000 for third prize, while 10 consolation prizes from each category were awarded INR 10,000 each.
