By virtue of being the defending champion and with well-known players in the state football circuit in the Fusion players’ list who joined the team after the recently concluded NSF Martyrs Trophy, Fusion SC posed a tough challenge for the new entrant Arrjusanger FC.
Barely five minutes into the game, the Fusion team breached the Arrjusanger defense and attempted the goal, but it was efficiently thwarted. The ball was kicked off from near the goalposts out of the D-Box, but Fusion striker, Khekrietsira (jersey no 18) shot a powerful long shot into the goal at the 5th minute. The Arrjusanger team was stunned at the seemingly unbelievable goal. The Fusion team took full advantage of the short time disarray and made some attempts. There was a couple of serious attempts, one hit the crossbar and out of the field. But at the 18th minute, Khekrietsira again found the ball which was deflected by the Arrjusanger goalkeeper and found the nets.
The Arrjusanger team gathered their tempo and started a counterattacking. They made some relentless attacks but were effectively checked by the Fusion defenses and saves by the goalkeeper. But, at the dying minutes of the added time, Arrjusanger midfielders breached the defense lines and kicked the goal. It was deflected by the goalkeeper, but Arrjusanger striker Nokcha (jersey number 9) kicked the goal into the nets. The first half ended 2-1, with the Arrjusanger team in high hopes.
The second half was more vigorous. Arrjusanger made several attempts to equalize the goal score, but the strong Fusion defense limited their chances.
The Fusion SC was also looking for more goals. At about 52nd minute, Fusion’s striker Nzauhut (jersey no 9) was brought down while dribbling inside the D-Box. A penalty kick was given and Fusion’s Khekrietsira again scored the third goal making a hat trick.
The Arrjusanger team also didn’t lose heart and relentlessly tried to make some shots, and indeed missed some great chances.
However, the Arrjusanger midfield was effectively checked by the Fusion SC at the offside to which the linesman promptly raised the flag.
Then at the 69th minute, quashing all the chances, Fusion’s midfielder Kilang (jersey no 15) breached the Arrjusanger defense lines and scored the fourth and the last goal. At the end, the match ended 4-1, with Fusion setting a date in the semifinals on October 23, 2015.
