Imphal, Jan 7: The last rites for former minister and member of the North Eastern Council (NEC) Professor Gangmumei Kamei was held at Namching in Bishnupur district on Friday.
A condolence service was held at his residence at Majorkhul in Imphal. Prof Gangmumei who was the founder president of the erstwhile Federal Party of Manipur died from a terminal illness at the age of 77 on Thursday last. Chief minister, Okram Ibobi, former chief minister Radhabinod Koijam, BJP national executive and former MLA, M Bhorot, secretary of NE Ram Muivah were among the hundreds of people who came to bid farewell.
He is survived by his wife, 3 sons and one daughter. Professor Kamei was a historian and a writer. He taught History in Manipur University. The area of his specialization was regional history of North East India and history of Manipur. He wrote extensively on history, culture and contemporary issues of the region.
