DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 5: CIVIL society of Chumukedima, in Dimapur, has noted what it deemed lackadaisical response of the state government to the fuel-adulteration racket that has seen alleged kingpins ‘roaming free’ even in the face of ‘proof and evidences.’
It is time the government of Nagaland start showing its responsibility to the people of the state who they claim to represent, two frontal organizations of the Chumukedima area stated in a press release to the media on Wednesday.
The Chumukedima Area Village Council Association (CAVCA) and Chumukedima Area GB’s Association (CAGBA) support the public resolution of September 10. The resolution resolved to demand Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry “for impartial and independent enquiry in fuel adulteration case and to re-arrest the kingpins who are out on bail.”
A joint press release from the two organizations on Wednesday stated in spite of ‘proof and evidences’ the kingpins have gone free.
“CAVCA & CAGBA is pained to state that with all the proof and evidences of fuel adulteration which was caught red handed, the kingpins of fuel adulteration are roaming free. It is needless to say that we have been robbed in broad daylight.
The lifespan of thousands of vehicle valuing thousands of crores in Nagaland have been drastically shortened,” the organizations stated.
“We are therefore of the view that such heinous crime should be dealt with all seriousness and sincerity by the competent authority so that these criminals are brought to book and punished as per the law of the land.”
The CAVCA and the CAGBA also expressed strong views that the demand of the Coordination Committee on Fuel Adulteration (CCoFA) was “fully justified and necessary to bring the said case to a logical conclusion.”
It may be pertinent to note that the dateline given by the CCoFA to the state government to institute CBI enquiry ends on October 8. On failing to fulfil the demands, the press release stated, “there is a proposed indefinite national highway bandh within the state.”
In this regard, the Chumukedima organizations have “in all sincerity” appealed to the government of Nagaland to accede to the demand of the CCoFA or discuss the issue across the table to avoid the proposed ‘national highway bandh’ in the interest of all.
“Numerous civil societies; organizations, associations, Unions have voiced their support to CCoFA through the media, transport unions have gone off road in support of CCoFA demands, yet the government appears to have lackadaisical attitude towards this case of high public interest,” the organizations stated.
“It is time the government of Nagaland shows its sincerity and responsibility to the people who they represent by dealing with the case on priority as may deem fit and necessary,” the press release added.
