  • KOHIMA — Following the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) submitting their formal stance on the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Nagaland's Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, has called for tripartite talks to address the matter moving forward.

  • Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Kenye stated that the discussions should now involve the ENPO, the central government (MHA), and the Nagaland government.

  • He emphasised the importance of transparency in the process, stating that the people of Nagaland "must know" the developments and intricacies surrounding the FNT proposal.

  • “What transpired between has been stated in the media, and there could be many more underlying issues,” he commented and expressed hope that these underlying issues would be brought to the purview of the state government, leading to a final agreement.

  • Regarding the ENPO's demands for increased representation in parliament and greater financial autonomy, Kenye acknowledged that these were recurring points of emphasis from the organisation.

  • He indicated that adjustments to accommodate these demands would require significant time and deliberation.

  • Kenye highlighted the need for a "high level of understanding" between the ENPO and the state government to facilitate constructive dialogue.

  • ENPO says unity first

  • In a move designed to prioritise unity within the Naga community, the ENPO has resolved to cease engaging with any Naga political group.

  • “This resolution had been initiated in order to discourage mushrooming of multiple factions that are disintegrating the Naga family in the name of Naga cause,” the ENPO stated in a press release issued on Wednesday.

  • The decision—taken during a meeting held in Tuensang on April 16— underscores the ENPO's commitment to the principle of "unity first, solution second" when addressing Indo-Naga political issue, it informed.

  • “The multiplication of various factions within the Naga political groups was found to be contradictory to our principal stand.

  • “Hence, the ENPO unanimously resolved to stay away from attending any invitation to any programme/functions of all the Naga political groups,” it stated.
