DIMAPUR — A breakthrough on some of the pending contentious issues related to the final settlement of the Frontier Nagaland Territory Authority (FNTA) was reportedly made during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday in Chümoukedima.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, and officials of the Eastern Nagaland Public Organisation. During the meeting, the state government reportedly informed that all pending issues had been cleared at its level and placed before the Ministry of Home Affairs for final settlement.
Confirming the development to Eastern Mirror, an ENPO official said that the final settlement would depend on the agreement of all stakeholders, including the Government of India, the ENPO and the state government.

Meanwhile, speaking to a news channel in Dimapur, ENPO officials said the final outcome would depend on the offer made by the Ministry of Home Affairs. They added that any outcome would be considered only if the people of eastern Nagaland agreed to it, as the proposed arrangement is for a period of ten years.
The officials further said that the ENPO would continue to negotiate with the Government of India if it was not satisfied with the offer.
They also informed that the earlier 12 contentious points were narrowed down to five during the last tripartite meeting, and that these five points were resolved during the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
The ENPO officials expressed hope of a positive response from the Government of India at the earliest, stating that the talks are now at an advanced stage.
