Nagaland launches LabourChowk app connecting construction workers with employers, jobs, welfare schemes and skill-development opportunities through smartphones
DIMAPUR — For construction workers who traditionally wait at roadside labour chowks hoping someone will hire them for the day, finding work in Nagaland could soon become a little easier — through a smartphone.

The Department of Labour on Wednesday launched the Nagaland LabourChowk mobile application, a digital platform designed to connect construction workers with employers while bringing employment and welfare services closer to workers.
According to a DIPR update, Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen launched the app at the chief secretary’s conference hall in Kohima. The initiative has been developed by the Department of Labour through the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
The idea is to take the traditional labour chowk — where workers gather in search of employment — into the digital space.

Through the app, registered construction workers can look for employment opportunities, while employers can search for and connect with workers.
The platform will also provide access to welfare schemes and skill-development services.
It stated that the digital platform is aimed at making the process of finding work more transparent and accessible, while giving workers a more dignified alternative to waiting at physical labour points.
Workers can register through the Nagaland LabourChowk app, available on the Google Play Store, and use the platform to search for employment opportunities and other services.
Employers can also use the LabourChowk online portal to register, log in and access the services provided through the platform.
Beyond job matching, the initiative is intended to strengthen service delivery within the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) system by bringing worker registration, job searches and labour engagement onto a single digital platform.
