Fresh violence in Senapati’s Taphou leaves a CRPF personnel injured, with arson, firing and NH-2 traffic disruption reported
IMPHAL — Fresh violence in and around Taphou in Manipur’s Senapati district left a CRPF personnel injured on Monday, while reports of arson and firing heightened tension and disrupted traffic along the Imphal-Mao sector of NH-2.
The violence began around 2.40 am when a house in Taphou Kuki village was reportedly set on fire by unidentified persons. Another house belonging to a Naga family was reportedly set ablaze around 4 am, while a third house was allegedly demolished.
According to officials, a CRPF personnel of the 36th Battalion sustained an injury to his left foot in suspected firing at Liangmai Taphou around 10 am.
The injured personnel was taken to Senapati District Hospital for treatment. He reportedly could not establish the direction from which the shot was fired.
There was also a report of firing around 9.20 am while journalists were covering the incidents in the Taphou area. Additional security forces were subsequently deployed to prevent further escalation of tension.
Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati, expressed concern over the incidents and urged law-enforcement agencies to closely monitor the situation, conduct an objective investigation and identify and book those responsible according to law.
