According to official reports, the incident occurred around 4.30 am when unidentified armed persons attacked Kultuh village, located about 45 km east of Chassad police station in Kamjong district.
The deceased have been identified as Letminlun Haokip (35) and Lunminthang Haokip (23), while the injured were identified as Jangkhomang (28) and Kamminlal (27), all residents of Kultuh village. The injured were evacuated to nearby health centres for treatment.
Police said that a team from Chassad police station rushed to the village after receiving information about the attack and initiated necessary action.
The motive behind the attack was not immediately known, and no armed group operating in the state has claimed responsibility for the incident.
The latest violence came a day after the bodies of six Naga men, allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13, were recovered from an area between Leilon Vaiphei and Kharam Vaiphei villages.
"The deceased are believed to be among those taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, 2026," the police had said, adding that legal formalities were being completed and the investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the six Naga men were shifted to the mortuary of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital in Imphal East district around 1.30 am on Thursday for identification and other legal procedures after security forces dispersed a large crowd that had gathered outside the mortuary, with many expressing anger over the handling of the case.
