IMPHAL — Fresh violence erupted in Manipur's Leimakhong Kanto Sabal area on Saturday after miscreants torched three houses, triggering public protests over the alleged inaction of the central security forces deployed in the area.
The incident occurred at Leimakhong Chingmang under Sekmai Police Station around 2 pm on Saturday. Sources said that three abandoned houses belonging to L. Kuber, Th. Leiri and K. Guni were damaged in the fire.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police, in a post on X, stated: "On 11th July 2026, a mob of approximately 600 individuals attempted to advance towards Kanto Sabal. The Security Forces intervened promptly and prevented a potential communal clash.”

It went on to inform that “attempt by miscreants to set fire to abandoned houses was also swiftly contained, ensuring no loss of life”.
Police added that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and that further investigation is underway. "Security Forces stand committed to maintaining peace and law and order," it added.
In a separate post shared later in the evening, the police said that two persons — Kammang Lhouvum (65), chief of Hengjang village and chairman of the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee, and Pagin Hangshing (30) of Khunkho Kuki village — were arrested by a joint team of Manipur Police, CRPF, RAF and Army on Saturday, in connection with the case relating to the mob disturbance and the alleged attempt to set fire to abandoned houses at Kanto Sabal in Leimakhong area.
It went on to inform that efforts were on to arrest other individuals involved in the incident.
