Dimapur, May 12 (EMN): A group of young professionals called The Kohima Global Shapers has reopened an educational centre called 'Each One Teach One learning Centre' on May 6 at the New Market, reported to be in Kohima.
According to a press release, the Each One Teach One seeks to provide free tuition and co-curricular guidance to children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Besides academic guidance, the learning centre hopes to expand the horizons of the students by providing classes in art, music, creative-writing, photography, dance and such.
The learning centre has started catering to around 35 students from different parts of the locality after their school hours, updates from the organisers informed.
Each One Teach One initiative was "seeded" (sic) by a citizen called Kethosilie Sorhie and started on June 2017 in a single garage space along the Kezieke-Secreterait road as a free tuition centre for children for whom the costs of private tuition were beyond their means.
"The centre provided tuitions to around 40 students three days a week. Between a dearth of funds to pay monthly rental and shortage of volunteers to tutor the children particularly in mathematics, Hindi and science subjects, the centre had to shut down on October 2018 despite continued efforts for financial assistance and additional volunteers."
On learning the situation, the press release stated, the Global Shapers Kohima Hub organised an event under the banner “Foster the Future” to raise funds for this project at the Heritage on March 21 2019.
During the inaugural programme of the Each One Teach centre, the Global Shapers expressed gratitude for the generous contributions by families, friends and well-wishers from both within and outside the state.
The community also invited residents of Kohima to step into the learning centre during their free time to interact with the students and teach them, the press release stated.
The Global Shapers Community is an initiative of the World Economic Forum which has enabled 371 hubs in the world’s major cities.
The Kohima Global Shapers is one such hub with young individuals who are civil servants, entrepreneurs, educators and professionals in a wide array of fields, the updates informed.
According to the press release, the members are all volunteers who over the years have taken on various social initiatives making their own time and resources available for these initiatives.
