MOKOKCHUNG – A 10-day intensive free boxing coaching camp organised by the Boxing Association Mokokchung (BAM) culminated at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Saturday. DC Mokokchung Thsuvisie Poji, who is the chairperson of the Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC), was the special guest at the culmination event.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Poji, who is also an honorary advisor to BAM, said on the occasion that the hard work and dedication exhibited by BAM throughout the coaching camp were commendable because not a single dime was released by MDSC, and the expenditures were solely borne by BAM.
He hoped that the time, energy, and resources invested by BAM would bear fruit in the days to come and encouraged the participants that if they dream to pursue boxing as a career, they should not give the dream up but continue to nurture it to make it a reality.
“I foresee a great future and light in the future,” said Poji, while adding that it is his prayer that there will be great boxers from Mokokchung who will excel at the international levels.
Lanuakum Imsong, president of BAM, highlighted the formation of BAM in 2016 and how the association has worked to promote boxing in the district with the help of all in his welcome address.
Appreciating the young boxers, Lanuakum said that excellence in an academic career also requires physical fitness and encouraged the participants to be determined, practise daily, listen, and learn from the coaches so that they might achieve their goals.
The deputy commissioner also handed out certificates to the coaches and technical support team on the occasion. Six of the most promising participants - one boy and one girl from each of the three age groups - were also given certificates.
The closing ceremony was attended by officials from the Mokokchung District Taekwondo Association, Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association, and Mokokchung District Badminton Association.
The coaching camp, themed "the future of boxing is in the small gloves," attracted 164 aspiring participants aged 5 to 16 years old. State and national level boxers coached the children over the course of ten days.
