Dimapur, Oct. 15: One woman from Nagaland and three Nigerian nationals have been arrested in connection with a fraud registered against them with the Cyberabad Metropolitan Police in Hyderabad. The arrests were made on October 13.
K Srinivas, an inspector in the Cyberabad Metropolitan Police, informed Eastern Mirror that the fraudsters would target their victims by creating fake accounts on matrimonial sites and other social media platforms, luring them for “marriage, friendship or job opportunities” and dupe them of scores of money.
“Thousands of photos of men and women were found on their computers which were used for the fake profiles,” Srinivas informed.
The inspector said that they would create fake profiles, mostly of women, and lure men on the pretext of either offering a job or building a friendship.
“They would say they are coming from the UK and need money to return,” Srinivas said. He added that the Naga woman involved, Holito Zhimomi, was also married to a Nigerian.
An employee of the department of Atomic Energy was promised a job at a multinational company and duped of INR 47 lakh and another victim from Mumbai was also duped of INR 1.5 crore with the same promise, it was informed.
According to reports, an amount of INR 11 lakh, 21 mobile phones, four passports, one laptop, six debit cards and pen drives were seized by the police.
