Imphal, June 15: Four militants, including two hardcore cadre, have been arrested in Manipur in separate incidents, the police said today.
A press release issued by the police said today one self-styled ‘Public Relation Officer’ of the tribal outfit Kuki Peoples Liberation Army, Jangkhongam Touthang (56) was arrested at Chassad Avenue on Monday last.
The release also said he was a former ‘SS Major’ of the KLA/ KNO and involved in the kidnapping of one Stune Hyungo and indulged in various extortion and kidnapping cases. In a separate incident, two hardcore cadre of KNF (N) Douthanglen Group, 32-year-old Letjang Haokip and 27-year-old Lunminthang Kipgen, both from Churachandpur, were nabbed by a team of police commandos from Tribal Market in Imphal, the release said.
Investigation revealed the duo was actively involved in the abduction of the Public Relations Officer of legislator G S Haopu and had carried out several activities including transportation of arms and ammunition, providing shelter to their party cadre and arrangement of party cadre, the release said.
The duo was also involved in the kidnapping of one JCB driver K Todonba Singh last month, the release said.
On the same day, one PREPAK (VC) activist was apprehended by a combined team of Manipur police commandos and troops of 2nd Assam Rifles from Poirei Khongjil area in Imphal East district. The apprehended identified as 22-year-old Chingakham Ranjit has been involved in extortion for raising funds for the outfit, the release added.
