A joint team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) Dimapur on Tuesday morning apprehended four persons, two males and two females, in Dimapur Railway Station while they were trying to smuggle gold biscuits weighing 4331 gm and worth Rs 1.21 crore.
Acting on a tip off, the RPF and GRPS personnel frisked the Kamrup Express train in Dimapur Railway Station at around 3.20 am today morning and the four accused were caught with 26 gold biscuits concealed in the waists and upper bodies of the two female accused.
According to police, the four accused had arrived in Dimapur via road from Imphal and were slated to leave by Kamrup Express for Howrah in West Bengal. The gold consignment was to be delivered to a person, whose detail could not be ascertained at the time of filing of this report, at Howrah in exchange for cash.
The accused have been identified as RK Templer Singh, 45 years, RK Semson Singh, 19 years, T. Shantibala, 26 years and RK Rojita, 31 years.
All the accused are from Manipur who are first-time carriers, police said.
