Four-day cleanliness drive ends today, Rio thanks public for positive response

(EM Image)[/caption] Eastern Mirror Desk Dimapur, Oct. 1: The four-day mass social work, which started on September 29 after Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio made a clarion call to the people of the state to come together for a clean and green Nagaland, comes to an end on Tuesday, Oct. 2 coinciding with the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Swachh Bharat day. Rio led the state-wide Swacchata Hi Seva campaign from the front last weekend, cleaning the PHQ junction in Kohima along with the public. He later took to Twitter to express his satisfaction on the overwhelming response of the people of the state and taking the cleanliness drive positively. People from across the state are also expected to take part in cleaning their respective localities on the final day of the four-day mass social work. The Dimapur chamber of commerce (DCCI) has asked all the business establishments and shops to take part in cleanness drive in homes and offices from 7 am to 10 am on 2nd October 2018 to observe Swatch Bharat day. The organisation has also asked directed everyone to “strictly comply and clean their surrounding, ensure flower pots and its catchment trays are dried, vessels are emptied, clear any and stagnant water in their surroundings.” A statement issued by DCCI president Akashe Zhimomi said that “public health is prime importance to the business community and hence it urges the community to always ensure their surrounding clean and healthy throughout the year.” Meanwhile, culmination programme of mass social work for Kohima district will be held at DC's conference hall, Kohima on October 2, 2018. EAC (Dev.) Kohima, I Changsang will chair the function and deputy commissioner of Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan will give a brief report on the mass social work conducted in the district. DPRO, Kohima has said in a statement that awards will be given to the best performing colonies and departments during the programme. The deputy commissioner of Kohima has also requested all the district heads officers and chairmen or representative of wards/colonies panchayat to attend the culmination function of mass social work. Chief minister Neiphiu Rio had earlier thanked the people from all the 12 districts of the state for participating in the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. “I am extremely pleased to see the collective efforts of people all over the state to achieve the dream of a clean and green Nagaland. I'm thankful to the people of Nagaland, across all sections, for being supportive and for successfully launching of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in Nagaland,” tweeted Rio. Rio had earlier appealed to the public to observe mass social work for restoration of damaged infrastructure, and to improve drainage, culverts and roads in all districts and ADC headquarters in the state from September 29 to October 2, 2018.
