KOHIMA, JULY 18 : Nagaland police have arrested four persons including two officers from Treasuries & Accounts department, a pensioner and a bank employee on an alleged case of fraudulent drawal of pension involving a huge amount of money during the past week.
The two arrested officers are reported to be the Senior Treasury Officer and Sub-Treasury Officer from Zunheboto District Treasury Office.
When contacted, the OSD Finance, V Kezo confirmed that the police had informed him about the arrests. However, he said details were not available with the department at the moment and the amount involved could not be speculated.
“We will be conducting a departmental inquiry into the case and the officers will be suspended,” Kezo informed.
If sources are to be believed, the amount implicated could total up to Rs 100-200 crore and 6-7 more treasury officers could be indicted. It was learnt that initially, the Accountant General (AG) had detected a high amount drawal of pension and a case was registered in the state crime station at the PHQ in Kohima. Subsequently, a three-member SIT was formed and in the course of investigation, four persons were arrested.
The accused pensioner and the bank employee are said to be out on bail while the two treasury officers are currently under police remand.
