DIMAPUR — Advisor
of Department of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, on Saturday inaugurated the
Foundation for Hope Health Care and Diagnostic Lab and Finding Hope India at
the Multipurpose Educational Centre, Naga United village.
Yanren Kikon, who initiated the charitable healthcare clinic
with his wife Abalü Kikon, in his keynote address, affirmed that “we are
committing to make health care more accessible and affordable to economically
disadvantaged families.”
“If we have the means and resources we could make a
difference. So this dream was born out of a personal journey; out of pain
something beautiful emerged. This heath care centre is a way of honouring my
wife’s courage and resilience and finding hope is nothing short of inspiring.”
Kikon shared that one of their notable projects is the
establishment of children's home care facilities; however, unforeseen personal
challenges led to a temporary pause of the children’s home.
And this emotional journey, he revealed, was the diagnosis
of a serious illness with his wife, which forced them to shift focus to her
treatment and recovery.
Kikon and his wife finally realised the emotional burden of
accessing quality medical care and also the financial burden of treatment.
This understanding led them both to a philanthropic decision
to establishing a charitable health clinic, ensuring medical assistance for
those in financial distress.
Finding Hope is an outreach ministry, which is spread across
America, Romania and Brazil and has already transformed countless lives through
education and child welfare initiatives.
Recognising the impact, Kikon approached Dr. Nathan,
director of Finding Hope, who immediately pledged support.
According to Kikon, the centre aims to bridge healthcare
gaps by offering significant discounts up to 60% on consultations, medications
and diagnostic services. In cases of severe financial hardship, those services
might even be provided free of charge.
“This initiative is more than just a healthcare facility; it
is a beacon of hope and healing for the community.”
“It is a charitable health clinic and diagnostic lab.
Because of personal reasons in the family, this health initiative was taken in
collaboration with American organisation offering significant discounts and we
will also provide free treatment, said Mhathung Yanthan, who was the special
guest of the event.
Asserting that Dimapur is the only city in the state that
provides medical care to the rest of the districts, he said that “In spite of
the medical care that is provided here, we also face lots of challenges and one
of the challenges is the accessibility and affordability; so establishing this
foundation is a significant step.”
“Healthcare is a shared responsibility. It requires
collaboration between the govt., private institutions, NGOs. We all have to
come together. As a govt. we are also committed to strengthening the healthcare
services in the state, we would also like to improve the infrastructure. This
institution cannot be run alone, it requires everybody’s involvement. We all
need collaboration. So I request the village council to also give support to
its fullest potential,” he said.
Founder of Finding Hope, Dr. Nathan Merrill, assured to
build hopes and bring hopes.
Finding Hope, he shared, took roots in Romania inspired by
his wife’s personal experience as an orphan. The expansion to Nagaland was a
long-anticipated effort, the result of years of planning and discussions.
According to him, initially, the organisation aimed to
establish a children’s home similar to those in Romania. However, evolving
priorities and pressing community needs led to a shift in focus toward
healthcare services.
“As a medical doctor, I have always been passionate about
healthcare initiatives. Years ago, my father and I set up medical clinics in
the Amazon jungles of Venezuela. That experience shaped my vision for
integrating medical support into Finding Hope’s mission,” Merrill shared.
Asserting that sustainable initiatives require time,
resources and strong community participation, he expressed confidence that the
healthcare project in Nagaland would flourish, making quality medical care
accessible to those who need it most.
“Many people struggle to afford essential healthcare
services. Our goal is to bridge this gap by providing medical assistance,
expert care, and ensuring that no one is left behind,” he added.
Naga United Village chairman, Reyopoyi Nyekha, in his
greetings, said that the foundation’s choice to bring the mission to the
village was a profound gesture of trust.
