Dimapur, Oct. 27 (EMN): A seminar about the People’s Forum for Peace was conducted by peace-advocating group Peace Channel for members of Niuland town on October 25, at St. Joseph Church, at Nuiland in Dimapur. During the event, resource persons talked about how peace within a person manifests in the form of promoting peace.
The objective of the seminar was to ‘strengthen the local capacities for peace and enabling the community members to act for peace,’ the organisers stated in a press release. ‘It is a holistic approach and it focuses on colonies, villages and churches,’ the updates stated.
During the event, Father Mathew John T, parish priest at St. Joseph Church, welcomed the participants of the workshop.
A brief introduction about the People’s Forum for Peace was given by Caroline Leisan, program coordinator of Peace Channel. She informed the participants that the forum believes in ‘inclusiveness of every individual in the society so that every individual will be at peace and would learn to love, help and promote peace among others too.’
The resource person of the event, Father Joseph, said peace is the most important value ‘we would like to have as a human being.’ Peace is the absence of war, conflict and violence, he said.
Father Joseph talked to the gathering about what the press release called ‘the four different ways of living at peace’: Good relationship with oneself, good relationship with others, good relationship with God and good relationship with nature.
The resource person concluded his session by saying that ‘when we have peace within us, we become the lover, the promoter and the makers of peace.’
‘Through peace we change the nature of conflict to the nature of peace which is the ultimate goal of Peace Channel,’ the press release stated.
Total of 25 people participated in the event, the organisers stated. They agreed to commit themselves and form said forums to be trained by Peace Channel for a year in matters of peace building, the updates stated.
