- KOHIMA — Nagaland's
former chaplain, Rev. Khrütsoi Luruo, also known as Rev. K Luruo, passed away
on Friday at Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR),
Chümoukedima. He was 85.
- Hailing from Rünguzu village in Phek district, Rev. Luruo
served as the state chaplain from 2009 to 2015. Before taking on the role, he
served as an executive secretary of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council
(CBCC), T Chikri Pfütsero, from 1994 to 2009.
- From 1989 to 1994, he was the education secretary of the
Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC). He also held various posts in
educational institutions and later pursued theological studies in the United
States.
- According to available records, Rev. Luruo was the eldest
son of the Sokhruyi Luruo. Born on May 5, 1940, he completed his primary
education in his village. He matriculated from Government High School, Kohima,
in 1961 and pursued his Pre-University (PU) course at St. Edmund's College,
Shillong (1961–1963).
- He served as the headmaster of Middle English School,
Phusachodu, from 1963 to 1964. Subsequently, he earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Union Christian College, Barapani, Meghalaya, in 1969. He also
completed layman Bible study training at Kotagiri, Nilgiri Hills, Chennai.
- In 1970, he was appointed as an assistant teacher at
Government High School, Chozuba, and later deputed to pursue a Bachelor of
Teaching degree at Gauhati University (1970–1971). Upon completion, he became
the vice principal of Junior Teachers' Training, Chiechama, in 1971 and also
served as the headmaster of Eastern Christian School, Chozuba, from 1972 to
1986.
- Rev. Luruo then went to the United States for theological
studies and earned an MA in Theology from the International Seminary attached
to William Carey University, Pasadena.
- Upon his return, he served as the education secretary of
NBCC for five years before taking up the role of executive secretary at CBCC
and later as state chaplain.
