MOKOKCHUNG — Former Upa-Lokayukta of Nagaland, Mayang Lima, and three others were involved in a severe road accident in Dergaon, Assam’s Golaghat district, in the early hours of Thursday while travelling from Tuli to Dimapur.
Lima's brother, Rev. Lanuyanger, confirmed that the mishap occurred around 1:30 a.m. when the driver reportedly dozed off, causing the vehicle to collide with a utility pole on the left side of the road.
The crash resulted in the immediate death of a female occupant, while the others sustained serious injuries. All were promptly rushed to Golaghat District Hospital by traffic personnel. Lima, seated at the back, suffered critical injuries including a head wound, rib fractures, and internal damage.

Opang and the driver were later referred to the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) in Chümoukedima for advanced treatment. The body of the deceased was handed over to her next of kin following an autopsy.
Meanwhile, Mayang Lima was taken to Mission Hospital in Jorhat around 6:30 a.m. He remains in the ICU but was reported to be stabilising as of late afternoon, according to a relative.
Due to his precarious condition, he could not be transferred to Dimapur immediately. However, the family plans to refer him to a mainland facility for further intensive care once his health improves, Lima's brother added.
