KOHIMA — Khotuoü Liezietsu, wife of former chief minister and former Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, passed away at Apollo International Hospital, Christian Basti, Guwahati, on Sunday morning.
According to family sources, she was born on July 26, 1939, and had been undergoing treatment in Guwahati since May 20.
A send-off service was held on Sunday afternoon at the hospital premises. Her mortal remains are expected to arrive at the family residence at Ruleizou, Kohima, on Sunday night.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 pm.
Patton, Phangnon Konyak, Ura Academy, NPF condole demise
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton expressed grief over her demise and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Khotuoü Liezietsu, wife of former NPF president and chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, this morning in Guwahati. My family and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and the bereaved family during this time of grief. Her warmth, kindness, and strength will be remembered by many whose lives she had touched,” he stated.
Patton added, “May her soul rest in peace, and may God grant comfort and strength to the family.”
Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, S Phangnon Konyak, also expressed condolences over the demise of Mrs. Liezietsu.
In her condolence message, Konyak stated that she was deeply pained to learn of the passing of Mrs. Khotuoü Liezietsu, beloved wife of former chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu.
Describing her as a motherly figure to countless individuals and a steadfast pillar of strength beside Dr. Shürhozelie throughout his life and public service, Konyak offered prayers for the eternal rest of the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family during this difficult time of grief.
Meanwhile, Ura Academy expressed profound grief over the demise of Khotuoü Liezietsu.
In a condolence message, the academy stated that she was not only a devoted life partner and pillar of strength to Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, but also a motherly figure and a valued member of the Ura Academy Chatha (Advisory Board).
The academy said her unwavering support, humility, wisdom, and dedication towards the growth and welfare of the institution would always be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
Conveying condolences to Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and the bereaved family members, the academy prayed that Almighty God grant them comfort, strength, and peace during this difficult time of grief, and that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
The Naga People’s Front (NPF) also mourned the demise of Khotuoü Liezietsu.
In a condolence message, the party described her as a woman of grace, humility, and quiet strength, who stood firmly beside Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu throughout his years of public service.
The party stated that her life was marked by devotion to God, family, and the community, and that she touched many lives through prayer, sacrifice, and compassion.
“As a wife, mother, and matriarch, she led not with words but by example. Her calm presence and kind heart earned her the respect and affection of all who knew her,” the message stated.
The NPF further stated her loss would be felt deeply not only by the Liezietsu family but across Nagaland, describing her as a motherly figure whose warmth and integrity touched many lives.
