Imphal, Feb. 29 (EMN): Former BJP MLA Danny Shaiza of Manipur passed away on Friday afternoon, sources said. He was 66 and is survived by his wife and five children.
Danny, a prominent BJP leader in the hill districts of Manipur, had been in New Delhi since November last for undergoing treatment, according to family sources.
He is the third son of the former Chief Minister Yangmaso Shaiza.
He began his political career in 1995 and was elected as the member of the Manipur State Legislative Assembly for three consecutive terms in 2000, 2002 and 2007 from Ukhrul assembly constituency.
According to family sources, the last rites will be performed on Sunday at his hometown Ukhrul town, 84 km away from Imphal.
A condolence service was also organised at the former MLA’s Nagaram (Imphal) residence on Saturday. Many leaders including minister and former MLAs were present during the gathering.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also paid his last respect to the departed soul of the prominent public leader by laying a wreath and later consoled the grieving family members during his visit at former MLA’s Nagaram residence in Imphal on Saturday. Biren was accompanied by cabinet ministers, public leaders, top civil and police officials.
Earlier in a condolence message, Biren said “Danny Shaiza had a remarkable record of public service and good service. He was a leader whose contribution and generosity will always be remembered by the people of the state.”
“On his demise we have lost an accomplished politician and a great public leader,” it said. “His absence will leave a huge void in the political circle of the state and he would be remembered dearly by each one of us.”
Manipur Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan and BJP General Secretary (Organisation) NE states, Ajay Jamwal also separately condoled the demise of Danny Shaiza.
