Diphu, July 4 (EMN): Former Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Ramsing Engti has breathed his last at Zion hospital, Dimapur on Tuesday, July 3 and his mortal remains was laid to rest at his residence, Lorulangso, Diphu here today to allow family members, relatives and well-wishers to pay their last respect. Engti leaves behind two daughters, two sons and his wife.
In the morning Deputy Chairman, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Ritesh Engti paid his last respect to late Engti. The executive committee of KAAC led by EM, Pradip Rongpi and other EMs including Rupsing Teron, Ratan Teron and MACs Richard Tokbi, Dorsing Ronghang also paid their last respect.
According to family sources late Engti was born on January 1, 1951 at Hari Rongphar village, Kuthiatuli, Nagoan district. He started his primary education from Kothalguri (Kothiatuli) Govt. LP School. From Class IV to VIII he studied at Kuthiatuli High School and passed his matriculation from Nonoi High School, Kuthiatuli. He studied his PU (higher second) in night shift during the initial stage of Diphu Govt. College from 1969. He did not complete his degree.
Engti’s first entry into politics was in 1984 when he contested as an independent candidate from Langfer Member of District Council (MDC) constituency in the Karbi Anglong District Council elections. He won the election and got EM during the Janata regime. He again stood for election, but was defeated as the Autonomous State movement was very strong in the district. In 2001 Engti contested MAC elections from Congress ticket from Lumbajong MAC constituency and had won the election. As EM, Engti hold the portfolios of Agriculture, Revenue and Taxation.
He was also president of Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee.
At the conference hall of new Secretariat building, KAAC, the Executive Committee led by EM Pradip Rongpi and attended by other EMs, MACs, official and staff of KAAC held a condolence meeting for late Ramsing Engti. A one minute silent prayer was observed to remember late Engti. The KAAC has declared wednesday as holiday for the council to pay respect to the departed soul.
