The resource persons were Dr. Talimoa, a research associate and Dr. Sham, both scientists at the ICAR of Medziphema. Following the event, 1, 015 chicks were also provided to them which were later distributed to the villagers of Fakim.
The Forest department also acknowledged what they said was the positive step taken by the village councils of Fakim, Vongtsuvong, Thanamir, Penkim, Salomi and Zhimkiur villages for imposing total ban on fishing in their respective jurisdiction.
“This is seen as a very encouraging trend towards conservation and protection of wildlife and natural resources, with many other village councils taking up similar steps,” the department stated.
“Mention may also be made that the district administration has banned logging operations in Pungro sub-division since May, 2016 which is another commendable effort towards conservation of the area’s rich biodiversity and a model for the entire state,” it added.
