Mon, Jan. 17: About 15,000 square metres of jungle was reduced to ashes at Forest Colony, below District Forest Office in Mon town on January 17.
The fire was suspected to have been ignited by people who had come to wash clothes at a nearby river. Sources said the fire spread rapidly and burnt more than 15,000 sq metres of jungle in which some houses were almost engulfed. The fire was brought under control by the timely action of Fire Service personnel, police and public.
It may be mentioned here that the fire incidents at today location/spot have become a yearly event causing alarm and tension to the nearby residents and the general public of Mon town.
No loss of life or damage to personal property was reported.
