Forest department introduces ‘green future nursery’ in schools

[caption id="attachment_179330" align="alignnone" width="550"] Rongsenlemla Imchen with the students of BHSS during the inaugural programme of the ‘green future nursery’ in Tseminyu on April 26.[/caption] Kohima, April 27 (EMN): The department of Forest, Kohima division inaugurated the ‘green future nursery’ at Baptist Higher Secondary School in Tseminyu by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rongsenlemla Imchen on April 26. The ‘green future nursery,’ is an initiative of Kohima Forest division wherein school students were given responsibilities to raise seedlings with the help of technical and financial inputs from the department, a press release from the department informed. The schools were selected on the basis of their involvement in conservation activities and activities of the Eco clubs. In the first phase, it was informed that three schools namely Baptist Higher Secondary School, Tseminyu; GMS Botsa and GHS Kigwema were selected for raising the nursery. Speaking at the inaugural programme, DFO Imchen said the initiative was started with the purpose to encourage students to engage them in conservation activities and to elevate environmental responsiveness amongst the students for making them responsible agents of change. She appreciated the school authorities and the students for their active participation in raising the nursery. The nursery included varieties of flowering and fruiting species which would be planted in and around the school premises and other areas in the coming weeks under the theme “Planting trees and hope for the future”. Principal of BHSS, Gwasemo Apon appreciated the initiative of the department and DFO, stating that such activities would enhance the capacity of the students with regard to conservation of nature.
