Dimapur, July 19 (EMN): The prediction of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for more rains in the next three days in isolated places in both Assam and Meghalaya has left both the flood-hit regions of the states on tenterhooks.
According to IMD, heavy rains is predicted on July 20, 21st and 22nd in isolated places in both the states even as affected region tries to get back on its feet following the devastating floods that are yet to recede.
“In Meghalaya, an advisory on rain in isolated places has been sent to the various officers of the district of West Garo Hills (WGH) by the DC asking all personnel to be in station to meet any crisis that comes up in the event of further rains. The advisory was sent on Jul 18,” TNT report said.
In the flood affected areas of SWGH and WGH, water is said to be receding but very slowly leaving many still in relief camps.
More than 1.55 lakh residents of the two districts have been affected by the current deluge.
Two persons, one elderly woman and an infant, have lost their lives in SWGH due to the current floods.
“The number of relief camps in SWGH has risen from the earlier 26 to 30 now with many people moving into safer locations to stay away from the deluge. WGH had earlier designated 20 relief camps though the number increased after many affected rushed to the nearest place of safety to set up camps there,” the report stated.
“We have issued all necessary directions to our officers to be alert in the case of any emergencies. Water is receding for now. Hopefully the rains will subside,” said superintendent of police WGH, Dr. MGR Kumar.
