Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has expressed dismay over ‘forceful fund/donation drive’ by multiple unions and organisations continuing unabated despite its request made earlier this month to refrain from such activities.
Terming multiple fund drive as an “extreme harassment” to the business community, the DCCI reiterated that the traders in Dimapur wouldn’t entertain such activities without the permission of the district administration and the knowledge and approval of the trade body.
“Presently, all shops and business houses in the commercial hub are flooded with demand/request by 40-50 unions and organisations of all hues and types to buy their calendars, souvenirs etc. or to contribute towards their silver jubilee, golden jubilee or conferences,” read the press release from DCCI.
It stated that the business community had never shied away from contributing towards genuine causes and events, and has no issues if unions and organisations wish to celebrate jubilees or conferences in a grand manner.
‘But we would like to urge them to organise fundraise through honest, hard work and acceptable means rather than resorting to unethical fund/donation drive, which amounts to daylight robbery,’ it said.
Maintaining that January and February are the leanest months for the business community as well as most citizens, in terms of financial health, the trade body said they “cannot afford to contribute to whichever union or organisation that comes knocking at our shops”.
The DCCI had, on January 14, issued a press release requesting the unions, organisations and individuals “not to undertake any kind of fund drive from the businesses community, whether selling calendars, souvenirs or other form of donation”, adding that such activities wouldn’t be entertained.
