Small gifts and observing Mother’s Day are the very least of grateful expressions for our mothers for the sacrifice they have offered and the burdens they have carried just to give us a chance at life and the future, reports our reporters Temshinaro and Henlly Phom

Dimapur, May 7
It’s a day of thanksgiving, of tribute, and a day of get-togethers. It’s also a day of memories and, yes, a day for the leading lady of our lives. It is Mother’s day.
On the eve of Mother’s day, citizens across Nagaland thronged the market to get the best available gifts they could find for their mommies.
On Saturday, citizens were seeing taking the bee’s route to the commercial establishments in Dimapur. It was a happy rush for businesses as people did not mind splurging just to express their gratitude to their superwoman.
Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. Presents, cards, poems, and compliments–everything that the heart can capture–have always been part of Mother’s Day.
The sacrifice, weight, and hardship that a mother faces in bringing up her children can never be expressed in words. At the least, Mother’s Day is a day when children can show their gratitude for all that she sacrificed just to ensure that they have a future and a chance at life. Julia (name changed), a mother of one, says that the joy of her being a mother would be in seeing her 2 year old son living a carefree life; his every little mischief bringing her smiles, enough to make her forget all the pain that she has undergone. Even when she is down and burdened with problems, she seeks the company of her son. This is enough to forget her worries, Julia says.
Being a mother will never be among the easiest jobs in life and the world. The hardships that a mother undergoes can only be deserving of unending appreciation. The meaning would be that 365 Mother’s Day-days should be celebrated every year if their sacrifice is the measure of what they are worth.
Aki, a young man, was going through some cosmetic products in confusion at a Dimapur store. He had saved some money from those he received from relatives and well wishers for making it through the HSLC exam. He was excitedly spending the money for his mother. This, he says, was the best way for him to express his appreciation for his mother for her many sacrifices.
“Even though my words will never do justice in thanking my Ala (mummy) for the great contribution she has made in my life, I want my Ala to know that I have a deep sense of gratitude for her, a selfless, loving and hardworking Mom,” says Asula Jamir. She hurriedly left Eastern Mirror the message while shopping for her ‘Ala.’
“Let this be a day to bring smiles on your mothers and the days to follow. Let mothers have her day with all limelight on her; make her feel special, bring her tears of happiness and let her know no one can replace her” was the collective message of the people on Mother’s Day.
The Eastern Mirror family wishes all our readers a wonderful, wonderful, and happy Mother’s Day! Don’t forget to give our hugs to your moms too!
