[dropcap]V[/dropcap]illages that fall under the foothill road project in Tzurangkong and Japukong ranges of Mokokchung have been asked to restrict movement of heavy vehicles along the foothill road, which is currently under construction.
In a meeting – as part of the Dimapur Ao Senso Telongjem tour of Ao sector – at Longjemdang village on April 10 last, the executive engineer (R&B) of Mangkolemba division, Tiameren Walling conveyed this message to council members from all the villages under the two aforesaid ranges.Addressing a press conference here today, ASTD officials said that the contractors concerned have also shared similar views. The villages have been asked to restrict, in particular, the movement of trucks loaded with timber or coal.
Aside from this concern, the executive engineer “clearly stated” his satisfaction that the contractors were executing their works within the specifications stipulated by the department, according to the ASTD officials.
The ASTD also stated that it was fully satisfied with the progress of work in Ao sector while sharing concern over the unrestricted movement of heavy vehicles in that particular stretch of the foothill road. It also expressed support to the contractors’ request to the state government for early release of all pending bills.
The ASTD had commenced their tour on April 9 last whereby they had a meeting at Tzudikong, Tuli with the Tuli Area Joint Council Forum and council chairmen from neighboring villages covered by the foothill road.
According to ASTD officials, the council forum had asked for speedy improvisation of the road in their area, which is already an existing one that covers 4 villages. The ASTD officials explained that this particular stretch of road, roughly around 22 kms, was not under the purview of the current work order which involves only fresh cutting activity.
During the tour, ASTD officials were accompanied by Ao Senden and Ao representatives to Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum, Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committe and Naga Council Dimapur.
The ASTD expressed gratitude to all the villages, councils and forums for their hospitality while hosting the tour party.
