DIMAPUR— Againgst the backdrop of the recent war of words between the Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) and NSCN (IM), the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has called upon the Naga political groups, any individual or group to desist from using violent or extremist language.
“Today, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) makes this open call to the signatories of the Covenant of Reconciliation (CoR). Tuesday, June 13, 2023, marked the 14th year of the signing of the CoR, which helped cease violence amongst ‘different’ Naga political groups,” FNR stated.
It also reminded that since June 13, 2009, the signatories have revalidated the CoR on five different occasions, the most recent one being the ‘September Joint Accordant’ signed on September 14, 2022, at Sovima, where the signatories resolved “. . .to refrain from all forms of rhetoric, assumptions, and agenda that are divisive. Such a culture must end immediately.”
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Maintaining that the resolution emerged from common convictions that rise above a group’s political purity and self-justification, FNR underscored the need to cultivate and activate what was affirmed on September 14, 2022, and supported by all Naga apex organisations, the Church and the state government.
More significantly, the NNPG and the NSCN (IM)’s agreement of January 14, 2023, presents the way forward, the forum said, adding that it cannot be misused, compromised or erased at the hands of any individuals or groups.
“FNR asserts its moral authority and issues this open call to the Naga Political Groups, any individual or group to desist, in toto, from using violent or extremist language defaming and undermining our shared humanity.
“To be sure, let us mark with high definition that ‘One cannot supersede the law of the Divine,’ in whose name we have signed the CoR,” FNR stated.
