ITANAGAR — Bruised by flashfloods and landslides triggered by incessant showers, Arunachal Pradesh braced for more rains as the weather department warned of very heavy rainfall in East Kameng, Anjaw, Tirap and Longding districts on Thursday.
The ongoing spell of floods and landslides has so far claimed seven lives, injured 29 and affected 1,49,378 people in 25 districts of the northeastern state.
According to the weather department here, thunderstorms with lightning and very heavy rainfall are likely at isolated places in East Kameng on Thursday.
Similar weather is also expected at isolated places in Anjaw, Tirap and Longding districts.
The India Meteorological Department has advised people in the affected districts to remain alert as heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, landslides and disruption of road connectivity.
A watch has also been issued for several other parts of the state, including Tawang, West Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri, Kamle, Kra Daadi, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare, Pakke-Kessang, West Siang, Leparada, Lower Siang, Shi-Yomi, Dibang Valley, Lohit, Namsai and Changlang.
On Friday, Anjaw will remain under an alert for heavy rainfall, while Lower Siang and Papum Pare are expected to remain under a watch.
The weather is expected to improve gradually from Saturday.
