Dimapur, July 6 (EMN): In a delayed report, three unidentified miscreants who posed themselves as “police personnel from crime branch” stopped a car on NH-29 stretch near Pherima on June 30 last and reportedly looted cash and other belongings of the car’s occupants.
When contacted, the president of Poumai Naga Hoho Dimapur, told this reporter that the hoho had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Chümoukedima Police Station on July 1 after the victims narrated the incident to the hoho on June 30.
The hoho president narrated that on June 30, a Hyundai Venue car with five occupants, who were on their way to Dimapur from Senapati, was blocked and sandwiched by two Bolero vehicles without registration numbers in broad daylight. The unidentified miscreants in the two Boleros, who posed as police personnel from crime branch, allegedly told the occupants of the Hyundai car that they had received a tip-off that their vehicle was carrying some illegal items.
The five occupants were ordered to alight from the car so that the ‘fake’ policemen could check the car.
As per the account of the victims, the hoho president said that even though the victims identified themselves, the miscreants took them towards Chathe Bridge (Patkai Bridge) and detained them for about three hours. When they returned to the car, they found their belongings including mobile phones and cash missing, and even car accessories were damaged and stolen.
The five victims, all from Kodom Khavii village under Senapati district, included the chairman of Kodom Kavii village and his wife, a college lecturer, a staff from district election office Senapati and a friend of the village chairman.
Meanwhile, the officer-in-charge of Chümoukedima Police Station informed that a case has been redirected to Medziphema Police Station as Pherima comes under Medziphema jurisdiction. No arrest has been made till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, the Poumai Naga Hoho Nagaland, has expressed shock and anger at the “barbaric act of the unknown miscreants” in the June 30 incident at Pherima where five persons were looted in broad daylight. PNHN president, Sülunü Rapaobamai, in a condemnation, said the hoho and all its subordinate units condemned the inhuman act meted out on the chairman of Khodom Khavii C Village, Senapati district, and the occupants of the car by hijacking the vehicle and looting valuable items and cash money.
While stating that all right thinking citizens should condemn such acts, the hoho also requested the law executing agencies of the state to expedite in nabbing the culprits and delivered justice to the victims.
Further, the hoho conveyed deepest sympathy to the victims who have gone through the ordeals on that fateful day.
