Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): Five persons were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) was hurled by unidentified miscreants inside a pharmacy – Ideal Chemist, located at Nyamo Lotha Road near Breeze restaurant Dimapur – on Monday evening.
As per police, the incident took place between 7.05 pm to 7.15 pm, injuring five persons including employees of the pharmacy and customers present at the time of the incident. Reportedly, the miscreant(s) arrived in a white Maruti Alto.
The motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained and there is supposedly no record of extortion, said the police. The injured has been admitted at Nikos hospital and one of the injured is said to be in serious condition. Till filing of this report no casualty has been reported.
Home Minister and NSCN (IM) condemns
Home minister Y Patton has condemned the incident on Monday where an unidentified miscreant hurled a bomb inside a chemist shop in Dimapur and injured four persons.
Stating that no stone would be left unturned to book the criminal(s), the home minister asked the investigating agency to immediately take up the matter on priority.
Patton, in a press release issued late this evening, termed the act as “horrific”, “criminal” and “barbarous” and stated such act was unacceptable “especially when the entire Naga nation was longing for peace”.
He also stated that the law enforcers were committed to expose the evil ideology of violence behind it and they stand together with their fellow Nagas.
The home minister also expressed sympathy to the injured persons and swished them a speedy recovery.
In a separate statement, the NSCN (IM) has also condemned the incident stating that the organisation was “disturbed and pained by the frequent bomb blasts that has been taking place in this commercial centre of the state.”
The NSCN/GPRN takes such cowardly acts as nothing less than acts of terrorisms and the culprits shall be brought to book, it stated.
“The culprits shall be hunted down by activating all the agencies of the NSCN/GPRN. Only devilish and heartless people will commit such heinous crimes against the peace loving people. The prevailing peaceful atmospheres must be safeguarded and protected at all costs.
“The NSCN/GPRN wishes the injured victims speedy recovery and appeal to the general public to come forward with co-operations so that all forms of terrorists acts shall be checked to ensure the innocent people to live in peace and harmony,” it stated.
12-hr trade shutdown
In protest of the incident, the Business Association of Nagas, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the East Dimapur Bussiness Association and the Nagaland Medical Dealers Association have announced that business establishments across Dimapur would remain shut from 6 am to 6 pm on Tuesday.
There would be no restrictions on vehicular movements or other activities, it was informed.
