The College of Veterinary Science in Jalukie concluded a five-day capacity building training on broiler production for the youth.

DIMAPUR — A five-day training-cum-capacity-building programme on “Broiler production and preparation of certain value-added meat products” concluded at the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (CVSc&AH), Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal, Jalukie, on March 27.
Spanning from March 23 to the 27th, the programme was designed to equip educated youth with comprehensive, hands-on skills in scientific broiler farming and meat processing.
According to a press release, the overarching aim was to foster entrepreneurship and strengthen the economic foundations of local communities across the region.
The programme was carried out under the leadership and patronage of Dr. I Shakuntala, Dean of CVSc&AH, CAU Imphal, Jalukie. Financial support was provided by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Meat Research Institute (ICAR-NMRI), Hyderabad.
The training was directed by Dr. Kevimese Khate, Assistant Professor in the Department of Livestock Products Technology (LPT), and was coordinated by Dr. Kshetrimayum Mahesh Singh and Dr. Amrit Gogoi, both assistant professors at the college.

Hega festival celebration held at Jalukie
The curriculum encompassed the scope and prospects of broiler farming in Nagaland, scientific management of broiler production, feeding management strategies, conservation of indigenous germplasm for organic meat production, and the identification and prevention of common poultry diseases.
Participants further received practical training in the slaughtering and dressing of broilers; preparation of a range of value-added poultry meat products; utilisation of poultry by-products, including the preparation of nutritious soup from chicken; and professional packaging techniques for meat products.
A field visit to the Livestock Farm Complex (LFC) of the college was organised on the inaugural day, affording participants first-hand exposure to the workings of a commercial broiler farming unit.
The proceedings culminated in a valedictory function, during which certificates of participation were conferred upon all 21 beneficiaries. The participants were undergraduate students from diverse disciplines of the humanities, drawn from St. Xavier’s College in Jalukie.
Addressing the gathering at the valedictory function, Dr. Shakuntala highlighted the immense potential of poultry-based livelihoods in Nagaland.
The programme concluded with the distribution of 140 day-old chicks, along with feed and all necessary inputs, to the participants. The value-added meat products prepared during the training were also distributed to the participants.
